Resolution 2-2024 Garbage Referendum

NOTICE OF BINDING REFERENDUM
Town of Calamus, Dodge County, Wisconsin
August 14, 2024

    NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that at an election to be held in the Town of Calamus. Dodge County, Wisconsin on November 5, 2024, the following proposed Resolution of the Town Board of the Town of Calamus will be submitted to a vote of the people:
Resolution 2-2024
BINDING REFERENDUM ON COLLECTION OF GARBAGE AND RECYCLING
    WHEREAS, the Town of Calamus currently utilizes dumpsters at the town hall for garbage collection and recycling purposes; and
    WHEREAS, there is no longer a company that offers a subscription service as an alternative for town residents to contract roadside pick up on their own; and
    WHEREAS, the question has arisen as to whether the residents of the town would prefer to have residential roadside pickup of garbage and recycling; and
    WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the initial cost of such roadside collection of garbage and recycling would be about $22.00 per month; and
    WHEREAS, this cost would be placed as a special charge on the annual tax bill;
    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Calamus, Dodge County, Wisconsin, place the following binding referendum question on the ballot at the election to be held on November 5, 2024: 

QUESTION: Should the Town of Calamus contract for town wide residential roadside pickup of garbage and recycling to be paid as a “Special Charge” on the annual tax bill by all landowners who have a residence on a parcel in the Town of Calamus?  Yes/No

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Calamus shall take all necessary steps to implement this Resolution.
EXPLANATION 
A “YES” vote to the referendum question means that the Town Board should contract to have garbage and recycling picked up at each residence at an initial cost to each resident of $22.00 per month, to be paid yearly as a special charge on the annual tax bill. 
A “NO” vote to the referendum question means that the Town Board should not contract for residential roadside pickup of garbage and recycling but that the residents of the town should continue to utilize the dumpsters provided at the town hall for those purposes.
